Ambassador Nong met President Alvi

Islamabad, 10 August 2021 (TDI): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong met the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadar on Monday. During the meeting, both sides discussed matters to increase bilateral cooperation, held discussions on CPEC, the Dasu bus incident, and vaccine diplomacy.

President Alvi while underlining the all-weather partnership between the two states reaffirmed Pakistan’s unconditional support to China’s ‘One China’ policy and also assured to stand strong with China on its matters especially regarding Hong Kong, Tibet, Taiwan, and South China Sea issues. He also appreciated China for supporting Pakistan on national issues and thanked the Chinese government for its support during the pandemic.

CPEC was also under discussion as Alvi underlined that the timely completion of the project is very important for the socio-economic development of Pakistan. Alvi also mentioned that no foreign power can halt the progress of the CPEC as China and Pakistan are fully committed to the project.

As for the recent Dasu bus incident, Alvi solaced the Chinese government over the loss of Chinese nationals and assured Nong that Pakistan will provide full protection and security to Chinese workers.

Both sides also discussed increasing cooperation in areas of mutual interest especially in the sector of IT. The promotion of regional peace and security was also highlighted in the meeting.

During the meeting, Nong informed that China will provide Pakistan with almost 6 million jabs by the end of this week and almost 100 million by the end of the year. 

Amb. Nong later tweeted that he felt honored in meeting the President and that he highly appreciates Pakistan’s stance for the non-politicization of the virus. ‘Devoted to more fruitful CPEC cooperation in infrastructure, IT, agriculture, people’s livelihood, etc’, tweeted Nong.
