Kuala Lumpur, 16 November 2021 (TDI): The 6th Joint Commission Meeting (6th JCM) between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Malaysia was held on 15 November 2021. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Saifuddin Abdullah, and his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son co-chaired the virtual meeting.
The meeting was a manifestation of long-standing ties between the two states. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral, regional, and international issues. The two partners reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various domains; post COVID-19 recovery, vaccine development, reopening of borders, as well as the Halal industry.
The 6th JCM adopted the Plan of Action (POA) 2021-2025 for the Implementation of the Framework for Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia. According to the Plan of Action Vietnam and Malaysia aim to achieve USD18 billion total bilateral trade by 2025. The duo will increase two-way investments and expand business-to-business ventures.
The 6th JCM successfully will enable the augmentation of bilateral collaboration and rejuvenate Malaysia-Vietnam ties influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vietnam and Malaysia share strong trade and economic ties. The bilateral trade between the countries covers a wide range of files like information technology, defense, and education.
The two share a maritime border in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Both are members of APEC and ASEAN.
