Islamabad (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari will embark on a week-long official visit to China today, with discussions set to focus on strengthening economic cooperation, trade, and progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the Foreign Office said.

According to the statement, the president will visit Changsha in Hunan province from April 25 to 27, followed by Sanya from April 28 to May 1.

During the trip, President Zardari is expected to meet provincial leaders and review the full scope of Pakistan–China relations. Particular emphasis will be placed on enhancing economic and trade collaboration, as well as advancing key projects under CPEC.

The Foreign Office noted that the visit continues a longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges between the two countries and holds added importance as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.

Officials say the trip reflects the shared commitment of both sides to further deepen their strategic cooperative partnership and expand collaboration across multiple sectors.

President Zardari last visited China on an extended official trip, where he held meetings with senior Chinese leadership to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues of cooperation. That visit also resulted in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding between the Sindh government and business partners in areas such as agriculture, energy, defense, rail connectivity, and training initiatives.

Those agreements were later expected to be expanded to other provinces, underscoring the growing economic partnership between the two countries.

The upcoming visit is also being viewed as an opportunity to accelerate progress on key infrastructure and investment projects, particularly at a time when regional connectivity and economic integration are gaining renewed importance. Analysts believe that deeper engagement under CPEC could help unlock further economic potential for Pakistan.

In addition, both countries are expected to explore new areas of cooperation, including technology, industrial development, and people-to-people exchanges. Such initiatives are seen as vital for sustaining long-term growth and strengthening the foundation of bilateral relations.
