Wuzhen (TDI): The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit opened on Tuesday in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, underscoring China’s achievements in the digital economy and its growing influence on global technological advancements.
The four-day summit, themed “Embracing a People-Centered and AI-for-Good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace,” has drawn participants from over 30 countries.
Representatives from major tech firms praised the platform for highlighting cutting-edge innovations and fostering global collaboration.
This year’s summit spotlights advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for society and the global economy.

Prominent Chinese firms such as Huawei, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, and iFlytek, alongside global giants like Microsoft and Infosys, are showcasing breakthroughs at the “Light of Internet Expo,” a key feature of the event.
Technological exhibits range from AI-generated content and intelligent vehicles to cybersecurity solutions.
Highlights include humanoid robots, digital creative products, and hydrogen-powered drones, with over 665 enterprises from 53 countries participating.
Hangzhou-based robotics firm Unitree revealed its “G1 humanoid robot,” capable of speeds up to 7 km/h and navigating obstacles, hinting at the commercial viability of humanoid technology.
“The G1 is poised to lead the industry, reflecting the significant market potential of robotics,” said Chen Xiyun, a Unitree marketing manager.

China’s digital economy has seen exponential growth over the past decade, expanding from 11 trillion yuan in 2012 to nearly 54 trillion yuan in 2023, according to Global Times.
Analysts credit this progress with bolstering global digitalisation efforts and sustaining the world’s second-largest economy despite global economic challenges.
Pan Helin, a member of the Information and Communication Economy Committee, emphasized China’s leadership in emerging fields like AI and robotics, contributing not only to national growth but also to global economic stability.
The summit, which continues through the week, seeks to deepen international cooperation, explore digital trends, and harness AI for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
