Wu Peng congratulated African Olympians

Beijing, 7 August 2021 (TDI): Wu Peng the director-general of MFA China’s African Affairs congratulated the African Olympians on their outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In a series of tweets, Wu mentioned that he might be late to the trend of congratulating the Olympians but agreed that it’s never too late to celebrate the great personalities. 

Wu congratulated Christine Mboma, the first-ever Namibian woman to win an Olympic medal. Christine won the Olympic silver medal in the 200 m final race. Peng also extended his felicitations to the first-ever Olympic gold medalist woman from Uganda Peruth Chemutai on excelling in the 3000m steeplechase at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

In another tweet, Wu also appreciated the South African star swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker and Ethiopia’s proud runner Selemon Barega who won gold medals for their respective nations.
