Beijing/Ankara, 20 August 2021 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had telephonic contact with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. During the phone call, both sides discussed the recent changes in Afghanistan.
Wang Yi highlighted that due to an overnight change in Afghanistan the destiny of Afghanistan now lies in the hands of the Taliban and their policies. Talking about the Taliban’s first press conference where the spokesperson promised security, inclusivity, and good neighbor policy, Wang added, till now the situation signals a right direction as the Taliban have shown a positive attitude to the world.
Wang further added the important thing now is to design the path of reconstruction which is in favor and acceptable for the Afghan people. To start the reconstruction of Afghanistan it is important that the Taliban refrain from all types of terrorist activities and remove all kinds of terrorist organizations present in Afghanistan including the ETM, said Wang.
Lastly, Wang added that the hasty withdrawal of troops has increased the chances of a civil war in Afghanistan, thus the entire international community needs to come together to encourage all parties in Afghanistan to unite so that an inclusive system in Afghanistan can be ensured.
Cavusoglu for his part agreed with Wang and China’s stance on the Afghan issue. ‘‘Turkey is willing to maintain close coordination and cooperation with China and push the situation in Afghanistan to develop in a favorable direction as soon as possible’’, added Cavusoglu.
