Beijing/Addis Ababa, 26 August 2021 (TDI): On Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had telephonic contact with the Ethiopian Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen, at his request.
Wang Yi, while underlining the strong comprehensive strategic bond between China and Ethiopia mentioned that both the states have stood with each other in the time of pandemic and reaffirmed that China is ready to cooperate and collaborate with Ethiopia on several international matters.
Talking about the upcoming FOCAC (Forum for China-Africa Collaboration), Wang stated that by using the opportunity of the forum China and Ethiopia should enhance practical collaboration with each other in a variety of sectors so that the China-Africa cooperation can reach a new high.
“China strongly supports Ethiopia’s efforts to maintain national sovereignty and independence, and will continue to assist the Ethiopian people in achieving national peace, stability, development, and prosperity”, added Wang.
Demeke for his part appreciated China for its continuous efforts in supporting Ethiopia and mentioned that Ethiopia is keen to enhance the partnership between the two states. Demeke also showed interest in developing better relations with China through FOCAC and reaffirmed the stance of his state mentoining that Ethiopia completely opposes the politicization of virus and intervention of international states in the domestic matters of Ethiopia.
