Beijing, (TDI): China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the upcoming UN Summit of the Future and the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that Wang will be representing President Xi Jinping at the event, which is scheduled from September 22 to 28.
During his participation, Wang is expected to present China’s stance on key global issues, with a focus on the international situation, global governance, and significant regional challenges.
He will also elaborate on major initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.
Throughout the week, Wang will attend several China-hosted events, including those aimed at advancing the Global Development Initiative and promoting international cooperation on artificial intelligence.
High Level Meetings
In addition, he will participate in high-level multilateral meetings such as the UN Security Council Open Debate, the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, and the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting.
Wang Yi is also set to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, and foreign ministers or heads of delegation from various countries.

Chinese officials have emphasized the significance of these forums, noting that they offer an important platform for fostering political consensus and encouraging collaboration within the international community.
Lin stated that the sessions present opportunities to address global challenges collectively.
Shen Yi, an international relations professor at Fudan University, commented that China’s engagement at the summit reflects its commitment to contributing positive and constructive elements to the current global landscape.

He noted that China is positioning itself as a key advocate for reshaping the international order in a more just and equitable direction, rooted in a vision of shared global prosperity.
Experts underscored that while China is pushing for reforms in the global order, this transformation will require the active and collaborative participation of other major international players.
