Dili, 9 February 2022 (TDI): Adaljiza A.X.R. Magno, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste participated in an online conference with her counterparts from Australia, Indonesia, and New Zealand.

The event was the first Four-way Foreign Ministers call. Aside from Adaljiza Magno, the participants were Marise Payne, the Foreign Minister & Minister for Women of Australia, Retno Marsudi, Foreign Minister of Indonesia, and Nanaia Mahuta, New Zealand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Local Government and Associate Māori Development.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste shared the news through her official Twitter account. During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed issues pertaining to mutual interest.

Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retnu Marsudi shared about the meeting and stated that the Indo-Pacific region is like a ‘Royal Rumble’ of strategic initiatives.

She expressed her pleasure in joining the 1st Fourway Call with her fellow Female Foreign Ministers in the Pacific. Issues related to common interests were deliberated upon during the meeting.

New Zealand’s Foreign Minister also took to Twitter to share about the digital meeting. According to Nanaia Mahuta, the Foreign Ministers discussed their shared dedication to the voices of wāhine in the Indo-Pacific

She pointed out that it was an empowering discussion that served as a powerful reminder of the significance of women’s perspectives as well as leadership. 

Marise Payne, the Australian Foreign Minister also expressed her satisfaction with the meeting with the female Foreign Ministers. During the meeting, the quartet exchanged views on COVID-19 response, promoting women empowerment, peace & security as well as several other issues relevant to the region.

The meeting between the female Foreign Minister is the first of its kind. The most notable issues discussed were related to shared challenges in the Indo-Pacific region along with the commitment to advancing the rights of women & girls.
