Hanoi, 23 August 2021 (TDI): Vietnam’s President Nguyen Xuan Phuc made a statement to the 42nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-42) for August 23-25 under the theme “Forging Parliamentary Cooperation in Digital Inclusion Towards ASEAN Community 2025”. Nguyen extends a warm welcome to the AIPA-42 President and Speaker of the Legislative Council of Brunei Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela, as well as the speakers and heads of delegations of AIPA member parliaments. It is a delegation of 15 members from Vietnam. As recently reported, they will be joined together with the National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and a Vietnamese NA delegation to attend the AIPA-42 held in the videoconference format.

Under the Assembly, there will be an opening ceremony, 2 plenary sessions, a meeting of the Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA), meetings of AIPA committees, as well as the signing of the joint statement and the closing ceremony.

Nguyen pointed out the crucial role of legislative bodies – represented by AIPA and member parliaments – that strengthen the ASEAN vision and identity of unity, cohesion, and resilience. He also added that Vietnam will further engage in multilateral cooperation frameworks including lawmaking and law enforcement.

They will discuss and adopt a procedure aiming to organize AIPA Young Parliamentarians’ meetings – a step to realize Viet Nam’s initiative at the 41st AIPA General Assembly held in Viet Nam in 2020 – to create favorable conditions for young parliamentarians to join AIPA activities.
