Vietnamese leaders sent letters to EU

-

Hanoi, 20 August 2021 (TDI): On August 18, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a letter to President of the European Council Charles Michel to seek the European Union’s support for the fight against COVID-19.

In the letter, Nguyen called for assistance to the EU through donating and sharing vaccines, as well as transferring production technology, and providing medical equipment for COVID-19 treatment. Vietnam desperately needed to secure vaccines for about 100 million of its population to prevent and control the COVID-19 in the country. That said, Nguyen thanked the EU for the support – donation worth 2.4 million vaccine doses via the COVAX facility – they received.

On the other hand, the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen also received a letter from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasizing the Vietnam-EU relations amid COVID-19.
