Tehran, 23 July 2022 (TDI): Iran’s First Vice-President, Mohammad Mokhber, in a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Syria, Faisal Mekhdad, said the security, independence, and integrity of Syria are of special importance to Iran.

The Vice-President stressed the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries in various fields.
Iranian Vice-President emphasized the territorial integrity of Syria and said Iran fully respects it. He further said the territorial integrity of Syria should not be compromised even when fighting terrorism.
Mokhber said that one of the strategies of Iran is to improve the level of economic cooperation and business relations between Tehran and Damascus. He also emphasized that the activities of the private sector and economic activists of the two countries should not face any obstacles.
Mokhber also urged on the need to create the necessary platforms so that economic relations between the countries can witness expansion. He further said that the Iranian government wants to expand its relations with Syria in all dimensions.
The Vice-President pointed out that If Damascus paves the ground, they will witness a serious development in relations. He also stressed on developing banking cooperation and facilitating financial exchanges, which in return can result in the realization of joint investments and cooperation.
Mokhber further said that even though the relations between the two countries are cordial and that there’s an appropriate level of political relations, the economic relations between Tehran and Damascus have not improved when compared with political relations.
Syrian Foreign Minister’s stance
Syrian Foreign Minister in response, said that Syria had had the support of Iran in all dimensions of the war against terrorism. He said, “If the Islamic Republic of Iran did not support Syria, the situation in the region and Syria would be completely different today.”
Mekhdad also referred to the economic sanctions against Iran and Syria as a conspiracy of the United States. He said: What happened in Iran and Syria is economic terrorism, and a country that carries out such cruel and unilateral actions against nations is a criminal.
The foreign minister said we are confident that with the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the American occupation of Syria will end.
Mekhdad also lauded Iran’s efforts in Syria. He went on to say that we will never forget Iran’s assistance and that more efforts will be made to develop Tehran-Damascus relations.
