Caracas, 21 March 2022 (TDI): The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations of Venezuela, Felix Plasencia, called on the Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela, Li Baorong on Friday.

The representatives held the meeting in order to review the issues of the bilateral agenda. Furthermore, they shared the views of their respective countries regarding the important events happening on the world stage.

More importantly, the two officials deliberated upon the agenda to strengthen strategic ties between the two countries. Moreover, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister reiterated their common stance against unilateral coercive measures.

Aside from that, the Venezuelan and Chinese officials expressed their countries’ commitment to International Law and the principles of the community of nations.

China-Venezuela Relations

The diplomatic ties between China and Venezuela were established in June 1974. These relations are based upon the principles of respect, bilateral cooperation, and solidarity. Trade and political cooperation between China and Venezuela have grown significantly during the 21st century.

In 2016, trade between the two countries totaled up to approximately $7.42 billion, with $4.9 billion coming from Venezuelan exports and $2.52 billion coming from Chinese exports.

Currently, the cooperation between the two countries comprises of economy and trade, technology, education, military, governance, and international politics.

Venezuela is an important partner of China in its economic and strategic ambitions in the South American continent. China has invested billions of dollars in Venezuela in terms of economic infrastructure and other projects.

Also, China is a huge importer of Venezuelan oil. Both countries have upgraded their tied to the level of strategic partnership in the recent years.
