Abu Dhabi, 21 March 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Japan, Yoshimasa Hayashi visited UAE and met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

Both have discussed the strategic relations between Japan and UAE including various ways of enhancing mutual cooperation and prospects in various fields.

Both sides also have discussed the situation in the region and the issues of mutual interests. Besides the latest regional and international developments, progresses in Ukraine and the significance of advancing international efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis also has been discussed between them.

Both Ministers also discussed the efforts which are being made to achieve stability and balance in the international energy and commodities markets in light of the repercussions of this crisis.

Sheikh Abdullah and Minister Hayashi also vocalized about the participation of Japan in the Expo 2020 Dubai and its prominence in the international events in exploring promising prospects for mutual cooperation between both states.

Both sides also discussed Osaka’s preparations to host the next edition of the World Expo, which has already been scheduled to take place from 13th April to 13th October 2025, in Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan.

This would be the third time that Osaka will host a World Expo, after hosting two previous editions in 1970 and 1990. Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the visit of the Japanese Foreign Minister and reiterated the strategic relations between the UAE and Japan.

His propensity to boost the mutual cooperation, prospects and the ways forward in different domains of mutual interests of the two friendly states and their people.

He also has expressed his best wishes for Osaka in hosting the next edition of the World Expo, praising Japan’s outstanding participation at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Foreign Minister Hayashi underlined his country’s profound interest to enhance the strategic ties with the UAE in various domains.

He commended the outstanding organization and management of the Expo 2020 Dubai and its success in holding a distinguished edition of this international event despite the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of State, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh and the Ambassador of UAE to Japan Shihab Ahmed Alfaheem were also present during the meeting.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed also hosted a sumptuous dinner banquet in honour of Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and the accompanying delegation.
