Vanuatu’s President meets China’s Foreign Minister

Port Vila, 2 June 2022 (TDI): Vanuatu’s President, Tallis Obed Moses, met with the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi in Port Vila.

President Tallis Obed Moses said whatever challenges occurred in the future, they will be countered and China will always remain a friend of his country.

In the meeting, China’s Foreign Minister said China will work with other developing countries to follow the United Nations Charter’s objectives and principles.

It will do so to ensure the principle of the UN Charter of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and promote justice and fairness.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vanuatu and China, President Tallis Obed Moses said, Vanuatu and China always maintained mutual trust between them and treated each other equally.

Vanuatu’s President expressed that China helped his country in building infrastructure. He enunciated that Vanuatu will stick to the one-China policy and it will help in the development of bilateral relations.

While Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that enhanced bilateral ties between the two countries will make greater progress. China and Vanuatu agreed to increase mutual trust and communication.

Moreover, the Chinese Foreign Minister Reiterated that China’s diplomacy was to ensure sovereign equality and treat equally all small countries, especially developing countries.

In addition, he highlighted that China protects the rights and interests of developing countries at the international and regional levels.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi appreciated Vanuatu upon starting Chinese language education in its education system. He said, “we will help people of Vanuatu in learning Chinese. So it will increase the China-Vanuatu friendship from generation to generation.”

Along these lines, President Tallis Obed Moses said, “Vanuatu and China have the same objective for development.”

He expressed his satisfaction with the concept of a community through which countries will equally enjoy the rights of peace, development, justice, democracy, and freedom.
