Brussels (TDI): Uzbekistan has called for a ten-year extension of its duty-free export privileges under the European Union’s General Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) programme during its maiden participation in the GSP+ working group meeting held in Brussels.
Uzbekistan attended the meeting of the General Scheme of Preferences (GSP+) working group of the European Union recently held in Brussels.
The meeting included representatives from twenty-eight EU member countries and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade (MIIT).
Uzbekistan’s delegation underlined the progress made since becoming a GSP+ beneficiary in 2021.
During this period, the Uzbekistan’s exports to the EU nearly tripled, reaching 1.15 billion dollars.

Of the 6,200 products eligible for duty-free export, nearly 1,100 – primarily textile, agricultural, and chemical goods – are exported regularly.
To further enhance competitiveness and market stability, the Uzbek delegation proposed adding new fruits and vegetables to the list of preferred goods and revising seasonal export quotas. The Uzbek delegation also proposed extending the GSP+ preferential trade regime for a further 10 years to strengthen long-term economic relations with the bloc.

The representatives also held talks with European Commission officials to increase access to Uzbek goods, secure quotas for rolling metals, and get technical help to align with the standards of European Union.
These conversations mark a major step in deepening trade and economic ties under the GSP+ framework.
