Uzbek President receives US Delegation

Tashkent, 7 October 2021 (TDI): The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a Delegation of the United States House of Representatives.

The delegation was composed of Congressmen Don Bacon, Doug Lamborn, Troy Nehls, and August Pfluger.

During the meeting, the prospects of interaction within the framework of expanded partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States were discussed. The issues of regional security were also considered. The Head of State informed the US delegation about political and economic reforms in the country.

The United States established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan in 1992 following its independence from the Soviet Union. Since then, the United States and Uzbekistan have developed a broad-based relationship. Washington and Tashkent cooperate in border and regional security programs along with the political and economic sphere. Uzbekistan is important to U.S. interests in ensuring stability, prosperity, and security in the broader Central Asian region.

The delegation stressed the importance of maintaining contacts for further deepening the partnership.
