Washington, 17 March 2022 (TDI):  Washington has encouraged India to avoid making any deal that involves buying any Russian petroleum, adding that this would showcase India’s support for Russia amidst its military hostile initiative in Ukraine.

An official of New Delhi stated that his nation would be “delighted” to take this deal. When inquired about recent speculations that India is considering bargaining a deal with Russia to purchase oil, the White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki urged the nations to consider their role in history.

Do these nations want to be remembered as the aggressor in history? History plays a vital role in shaping a nation, especially during such crucial conflict as that of the recent Russia-Ukraine conflict. She also commented that such actions would not be answered with Western economic suppression.

“Our message to any country continues to be, obviously, abide by the sanctions,” she said, adding “I don’t think this would be violating [the sanctions], but think about where you want to stand when the history books are written in this moment in time. And support for the Russian leadership is support for an invasion that obviously is having a devastating impact.”

These comments came after two Indian Officials told Reuters that New Delhi is in contact with Russians and weighing its option on getting the oil. It was observed by the official that New Delhi might take the deal.

Also, both states are working on bilateral relations that would profit them both, most likely to include Rupees and Rubles. Currently, India imports only 3% of its oil from Russia but now as recent soaring costs reach up to an impressive 40% this year makes the deal even more tempting.

The Press Secretary was likewise asked to comment on Saudi Arabia’s intention of selling oil in the Chinese currency, Yuan, where the authorities are in active dialogue to achieve this idea. However, she declined to remark any further and dismissed them by saying that they were intrigued by such intentions.

Until now, India has restricted itself from joining the United States and its allies along abstaining to vote against the military intervention by Russia on Ukraine in the United Nations.

Ukraine has strongly condemned this unwanted and unprovoked act. At the same time, Moscow on the other hand, says that this special operation is to neutralize its surroundings and the state was following a quite long battle between the Kyiv government and the rebels in the Donbas region.
