US Under Secretary Urza Zeya paved a visit to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, 23 May 2024(TDI): The US Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Urza Zeya made a day visit to Uzbekistan where She hosted and held a series of meetings with government officials of Uzbekistan to provide backup for constitutional reforms.

During the visit, the US Under Secretary hosted regional dialogue and gave a speech at a scientific conference on criminal proceedings in support of Uzbekistan’s ongoing implementation of constitutional reforms on human rights and equal access to justice.

The Urza Zeya negotiated with government officials, civil society representatives, and human rights defenders the advancement of gender equality, the fight against gender-based violence, support for the freedom of religion, and the protection of vulnerable population groups, the State Department reveals.

Moreover,  the US Under Secretary of State Urza Zeya conducted a bilateral engagement with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov. At the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the US.

We considered several current topics on our bilateral agenda, and agreed to continue our efforts to enrich close cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States in all areas, especially aimed at creating the most favorable conditions for our people,” Saidov wrote in his Telegram channel.

New Uzbekistan’s unwavering dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment supported by the rule of law has resulted in increased trade and investment with the United States, said Uzbik Foreign Minister.

Commenting on the meeting, the US official said, “Honored to meet with Foreign Minister Saidov on deepening US-Uzbekistan partnership and US support for Uzbekistan’s reforms and regional cooperation.”

For over 30 years, US-Uzbekistan relations have been anchored in strong support for Uzbekistan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” he added.
