San Francisco, 7 May 2024 (TDI): The US State Department rolled out a new international cybersecurity plan and digital policy strategy on Monday, aimed at encountering threats from China, Russia and cyber criminals.
The United States unleashed a National security plan last year for cybersecurity, and the Department of Homeland Security worked on it. However, after a decade, the State Department reveals international cyberspace and digital security plans.
If successful, the strategy would elevate the US’s role globally in encountering cyber threats, establish global censuses on artificial intelligence, and position the United States against China in setting cybersecurity norms.
The strategy was formally disclosed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the RSA conference in San Francisco on Monday afternoon.
According to the strategy, the United States will collaborate with interagency partners to boost international “digital solidarity” through four primary action areas under the supervision of three principles. The strategy defines digital solidarity as a willingness to work together on common goals, support partners, and provide mutual assistance.
The four primary areas of action are promoting a secure digital ecosystem globally, maintaining the “respecting digital technology approaches with partners, strengthening coalition to counter malignant cyber attacks, harm and boosting the cybersecurity resiliency of partner nations.
Moroever, The New State Department plan also acknowledges that cyberweaponry and a range of tools used to destabilize the region, undermine human rights and exert malign influence would be suppressed. The United States supports building international cybersecurity with its partners and allies.
Additionally, the United States is set to amplify its engagement in cyber diplomacy endeavors within the United Nations. The plan involves fostering proactive discussions on cyber-related matters, aiming to instate a framework promoting responsible conduct in the digital realm.
Moreover, the new strategy commits the US and its allies to establishing common ground on fundamental principles concerning the advancement and application of AI technologies. This includes the progression of universal norms within the AI domain.
