US Secretary Blinken arrives in Doha

Doha, 9 February 2024 (TDI): The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken arrives in Doha on his fifth trip to the Middle East since the Hamas attack on October 7th.

The Secretary of State Blinken met with the Amir of the State of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha. The Secretary wrote, “The constant engagement at the highest level of our governments reflects our relentless focus on securing the release of all hostages.

He further stated, “We aim to achieve a pause in fighting to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza”.

The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said that Hamas militants’ leaders have responded to a proposed hostage deal that would pause the fighting in Gaza. Moreover, during the press conference, Blinken says that the proposal has been shared with Israel.

In addition, the US will be working as hard as possible to get an agreement so things can move forward smoothly. They are furthermore, pushing for a new temporary cease-fire in Gaza with the increase in humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians.

Reportedly, the US, Egypt, and Qatar helped craft the ceasefire proposal that is under consideration.

The Amir of the State of Qatar told reporters through a translator that we have received a reply from Hamas with respect to general framework of the agreement. Additionally, the reply composes of comments that are generally considered ‘positive’.

Similarly, the Qatari Prime Minister shows optimism in the hostage deal. The US Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “Secretary Blinken emphasized the US rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

The US Secretary Antony J. Blinken aims on establishing a Palestinian state that provides peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

Lastly, 20 partners have provided food assistance reaching approximately 1.8 million people between January 9th and February 4th.
