Doha, 8 September 2021 (TDI): US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III visited the Al Udeid Airbase in Doha, which is the largest site for Afghan evacuation.
According to Secretary Blinken the Al Udeid airbase hosts above 57000 Afghan evacuees who are in process of transit. Blinken assured the US continued support for all evacuees.
Earlier, Qatar agreed to the USA for utilizing its Al Udeid Airbase for the transit of Afghan evacuees and to host the US diplomatic mission being evacuated from Kabul.
Secretary Blinken traveled to Gulf on Sunday to reassure US support to its Gulf allies and meet with the Afghan evacuees.
