Islamabad (TDI): The US Mission in Pakistan has launched its Freedom 250 Liberty Bell initiative, themed “Let Freedom Ring,” with a ceremonial unveiling at the Lincoln Corner in Islamabad.
This marks the beginning of a nationwide series of events to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker unveiled a full-sized replica of the iconic Liberty Bell, underscoring the enduring significance of freedom, democracy, and diplomacy in shaping the United States and its global partnerships.
The initiative honors not only America’s founding ideals but also the role of diplomatic engagement in strengthening people-to-people ties, including the longstanding relationship between the United States and Pakistan.
“At the top of the original Liberty Bell are these words: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” And liberty – or freedom – is at the core of our American values and the bedrock of our nation.” -NB

The Liberty Bell, housed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, remains one of the most powerful symbols of American liberty. Cast in 1752, the bell is closely associated with the American Revolution and rang on historic occasions, including the signing of the US Constitution in 1787.
Over time, it has also become an emblem of broader struggles for justice, notably serving as a symbol for the abolition of slavery. Today, the Liberty Bell stands as a reminder of the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice that continue to shape American society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chargé Baker reflected on the bell’s historical legacy and its relevance in the modern world. “The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence.
It is fitting that we are standing inside the Lincoln Corner, a place that promotes learning about America and American values, including freedom of speech,” she said.

She also highlighted the historic ties between Philadelphia and American diplomacy, noting the contributions of diplomats from the city and emphasizing the personal and cultural connections that continue to strengthen U.S.-Pakistan relations.
As part of the “Let Freedom Ring” initiative, 15 Liberty Bell replicas will be distributed to Lincoln Corners across Pakistan. Local artists and student volunteers will be invited to paint the bells under the theme “What Freedom Means to Me,” offering creative and personal interpretations of freedom from diverse perspectives.
These decorated bells will be showcased at U.S. Independence Day celebrations in Pakistan this summer. In addition, the painted bells will be featured in a commemorative video to be shared by the US Embassy, amplifying the voices, creativity, and talent of Pakistanis.
