The US representatives focused on terrorism concerns, the security dimension, and safe passage for the US citizens living in Kabul. Moreover, the security of other foreign nationals and America’s Afghan partners were also highlighted during the talks. The US delegates further expressed their concerns over human rights and the significant participation of women in Afghan society.
During the Doha talks, Washington reiterated that the Taliban would entirely be judged on their actions rather than words. Meanwhile, both sides exchanged views on the United States’ humanitarian assistance towards Afghan citizens as well. The two-day meeting was the first face-to-face interaction between the two sides since the Taliban gained control of Afghanistan in August, followed by the United States’ complete withdrawal from the country.
