Islamabad, 19 November 2022 (TDI): US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome celebrated Pakistani Women’s success in STEM through mentorship. US-Pakistan Women Council achieved S&P Global’s milestone & mentored more than 10,000 women.

These women have been trained in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The milestone of mentoring 10,000 women through STEM, was by S&P Global. It is the short form for “Standards & Poor’s”, an American publicly traded corporation.

This milestone has been achieved with the support of the Pakistan Million Women Mentors Initiative. This is highlighted as women’s success which can play an important role in Pakistan’s success.

US-Pakistan Women’s Council

It is a public-private partnership for increasing the participation of women in Pakistan’s economic sector. The public and private sectors, civil society, and government from US and Pakistan commit to catalyzing the participation of women.

Women empowerment in Pakistan is the priority area of this partnership. It was established in 2012. In 2019, the second phase of the council was launched as a partnership between US State Department and Texas A&M University.

Along with this, the public and private sectors of both states have been involved in this second-phase partnership. The council reached 236,000 people in Pakistan between 2012-2018.

Pakistan Million Women Mentor Initiative

This initiative is a part of the Million Women Mentor premier network that aims to encourage and support women and girls across the world in STEM fields. Girls and women are pursued to persist in STEM careers.

It is active in about 40 states and works with local organizations and leadership in encouraging and facilitating girls and women. Pakistan Million Women Mentor Initiative aims to mentor one million women and girls in Pakistan by 2025.

The growth of the program is growth in STEM career and education, leadership by encouraging women to take leadership positions, and skill building through STEM mentoring. It is an initiative of the US-Pakistan Women’s Council.
