New York, 22 September 2021 (TDI): The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly begins under the Presidency of Abdulla Shahid. He is also the Foreign Minister of Maldives. The UNGA President held meeting with the officials of various countries.
The President met the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, Dr. Veronica Nataniel Macamo Dhlovo. He expressed well wishes to the government and people of Mozambique.
President Abdulla Shahid also held a meeting with the Minister of International Relations of South Africa, Dr. Naledi Pandor. They discuss South African priorities for the UNGA 76th session. President assured her of vaccine equity.
Furthermore, Abdulla Shahid held talks with the Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ruslan Kazakbaev. The Foreign Minister briefed the President on policies of Sustainable Economic Development.
The UNGA President also met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Both leaders discussed Ukraine’s priorities for UNGA 76. Moreover, President held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Korčok.
The Foreign Minister of Andorra, Maria Ubach Font also met Abdulla Shahid. He discussed the empowerment of women, and the full participation of young people.
The President also met with the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia. He also held a meeting with the President of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Moreover, Abdulla Shahid talks with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Qatar is committed to multilateralism. Both leaders discussed the upcoming LDC5 conference in Doha.
President met with the Foreign Minister of Australia, Marise Payne. Both leaders discussed shared priorities on civil society engagement, gender equality, and youth engagement.
The 76th session of UNGA is a momentous occasion in the history of Maldives with the Maldivian serving as the President. Abdulla Shahid also met with Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He expressed gratitude and honor. Abdullah Shahid thanked all the leaders for their support.
