UNGA adopts Pakistan Sponsored Resolution

Islamabad, 27 December 2021 (TDI): On 26 December 2021, the Foreign Office of Pakistan stated that the Pakistan-sponsored resolution entitled “Countering Disinformation for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms” was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York by consensus.

The Foreign Office further gave a statement that Pakistan recapitulated its commitment to counter the spread of disinformation to combat propaganda and requires international cooperation to meet the reality in an age of increasing falsehood.

Mentioning the efforts of Pakistan, it further stated that Pakistan has taken multiple initiatives against the emerging roots of the proliferation of disinformation across the globe.


It further added that the episodes of propaganda are increasing, leading towards social discords, hate speech, unbalanced humanity, Islamophobia, xenophobia, fading tolerance, blurred equality, and related discrimination.

The adopted resolution is an outcome of detailed consultations based on the opinions of the intellectuals of all member states and backed by a large number of states.

According to the statement of the Foreign Office, the adopted resolution depicts a plethora of prejudices and the rapid spread of disinformation through virtual platforms that are hammering fundamental rights and equality into the coffin.

The statement added that the resolution has urged the international community to devise transparent policies according to internationally set standards to combat disinformation and protect human rights.

The Foreign Office further stated that consensual efforts will pave the way for peace and harmony, and will counter the dissemination of disinformation that hinders global security. Adding to this, it also welcomed the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to promote international collaboration for peaceful co-existence.
