DG Khan, 10 December 2022 (TDI): The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) organized an orientation session for women’s empowerment in DG Khan. The United Nations Convention for Children (UNRC) in Punjab also joined the session.

In the discussions, there were participants of Women and Girls Friendly Space. The UN will assist and connect WGFS participants to NADRA for the renewal of expired CNICs and birth certificates.

These Women and Girls Friendly Spaces are essential for guaranteeing the protection and empowerment of women affected by the floods in Pakistan.

According to UNFPA Pakistan Representative, Dr. Luay Shabaneh, the recent history of Pakistan demonstrates that many women who started out as common girls went on to achieve great things while also facing fear and hurt. These women’s fortitude and determination serve as a constant source of inspiration.

Women and Girl Friendly Spaces (WFGS)

Women and Girl Friendly spaces are where women feel safer, get support and information, participate in activities, network, and strengthen relationships with peers.

It is a setting, whether formal or informal, where women and girls feel secure both physically and emotionally. In this usage, the word “safe” denotes a state free from trauma, extreme stress, violence, or abuse.

Different names for Women and Girls Friendly Spaces include Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGFS), Wellbeing Centers, and Wellness Centers.
