Riyadh, 10 December 2022 (TDI): During the discussions on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani reviewed the Qatar World Cup.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the Riyadh-Chinese Summit which was held to discuss cooperation with Arab and Gulf countries.

Xi expressed his hope that the World Cup will be a complete success. He said that Qatar’s successful hosting of the event reflects the nation’s competency, and has introduced new and uplifting energy into the present-day uncertain world.

Furthermore, Sheikh Tamim expressed his gratitude to Xi for his good wishes for the World Cup. He stated that the games are necessary for the world to learn about the skills and spirit of the Arab region.

World Cup Stadium

The arrival of two pandas, he added, contributed to the festive atmosphere of the games & has become a new name card for the friendship between Qatar & China. He also mentioned that Chinese businesses constructed the main stadium for the events.

However, Qatar will host the 22nd FIFA World Cup from November 20 through December 18, 2022. The World Cup is being held for the first time in the Muslim and Arab worlds.

Both leaders discussed the two friendly nations’ strategic partnership relations. In addition, they also talked about their development across a range of sectors, particularly in the areas of the economy, investment, energy, and industry.

Moreover, the “most important concerns on the regional and international arenas of mutual interest” were also discussed.

However, the 42nd Gulf Summit kicked off in Riyadh, where the Sultanate of Oman will preside over its 43rd session. On December 7, 2022, Xi went on an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

On the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Xi attended the first summit between China and Arab states as well as the China-GCC meeting in Riyadh during this trip.
