Phnom Penh, 2 February 2023 (TDI): Cambodia and Japan expressed satisfaction with their relations and cooperation, especially between their legislative bodies, both in the bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

This was revealed on February 1 in Phnom Penh during a meeting between the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, and Atsushi UENO, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.

Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of Atsushi UENO.

Diplomatic Relations

Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the decision to advance the diplomatic relations between their countries from the status of “strategic partnership” in 2013 to that of “comprehensive strategic partnership” in 2023.

Moreover, they also extended their congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Japan.

The President of the Senate extended his congratulations to Atsushi UENO on his promotion to his new job in Cambodia.

Furthermore, he has high hopes that the relations, solidarity, and cooperation between the two nations would progress to new heights as a direct result of his diplomatic mission.

Samdech Say Chhum expressed his support for the new Japanese ambassador’s plan to travel around Cambodia and interact with the people there. This will lead to a better understanding of Cambodian culture.

In addition, he underlined the Senate’s willingness to work closely with Atsushi UENO. This will contribute to the building of friendship, solidarity, and collaboration between the two nations and their peoples.

Atsushi UENO, for his part, praised the remarkable improvement that Cambodia has seen across all fields.

Additionally, the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia extended his congratulations to Cambodia on the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits as well as the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
