Islamabad, July 2, 2021 (TDI) — A new program,” Promoting the Rule of Law and Enhancing the Criminal Justice System in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Newly Merged Districts and Balochistan” has been launched by UN Women Pakistan. The program is funded by the EU partnership, UNDP Pakistan, UN Women Pakistan, and UNDOC Pakistan in alignment with the current government’s aims to promote equality and fairness in the justice system. With the maxim of “Peaceful, Inclusive and Just Societies for all”, the program was kick-started in a ceremony attended by Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan as the Chief Guest and Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan.
The program is financed under EU Multi-Annual Indicative Program 2014-2020.
“Inclusive access to justice for all is an important prerequisite for a peaceful and just society. Today’s program builds on the long-term commitment of the EU to improving the Rule of Law and justice for all in Pakistan,” says Ms. Jaminara.
In May this year, the UN Women Pakistan also signed an MoU with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy for a gender-inclusive judicial system and promotion of Rule of Law. The MoU is to support violence survivors by gender sensitizing the justice system in KPK and Balochistan along with promoting gender equality within the sector. The current program builds on such goals.
Justice for all is an important goal of the global SDG’s program and Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed has ensured Pakistan government’s stance of ensuring the support and goal-oriented approach to the initiative.” I am certain that together, we will be able to enhance access to justice for all, particularly women, less privileged and the marginalized groups and improve service delivery,” says Mr. Ahmed.
