UN resident coordinator in China emphasizes UN-China cooperation

Beijing, 3 November 2021 (TDI): The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in China Siddharth Chatterjee attended a symposium in Beijing on 2 November 2021 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations. The United Nations in China and Center for China and Globalization (CCG) co-hosted the conference in Beijing, the capital of China.

UN Secretary-General also participated in the event

The Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of the United Nations also participated in the symposium virtually. He highlighted that China has become one of the important contributors to the work of the United Nations in the world. It regularly participated in the UN missions in the world. He further stated that China has become an important pillar of multilateralism in the world.

UN coordinator highlighted China-UN cooperation

The UN resident coordinator in China also addressed the symposium. He stated that since the restoration of the People’s Republic of China’s lawful seat in the UN, China has been committed to international cooperation in the world. He said that China has also been playing an active role in South-South cooperation. The UN coordinator in China also highlighted that the Chinese role in the UN has shifted and it has become an important partner of the United Nations.

UN coordinator urges cooperation in global challenges

He emphasized that with celebrating the achievements of the past we should also focus on the global challenges. He stressed that climate change is a threat to the existence of humanity in the world. Therefore, international cooperation should be the top priority of every state in the world. He also talked about the inequality in the world which has unsettled the progress of the world.

Cooperation in other Fields

In the symposium, the officials also discussed cooperation in different fields such as the importance of rural development and child development. They also talked about the preservation of biodiversity. The officials also discussed the China-Africa
