Doha, 30 June 2022 (TDI): The two-day Doha talks on lifting sanctions on Iran ended in the Qatari capital Doha. The spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, Nasser Kanani, reiterated that the discussions took place in a serious and professional setting.

According to an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, the two-day talks continued between Ali Bagheri Kani, Iranian Senior Negotiator, and Enrique Mora, European Coordinator of the talks.

Thus, the talks in Doha (Iran-EU-US) lasted for two days from the beginning. The parties exchanged opinions and suggestions on the remaining issues.

This was as a result of the extensive consultation that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The opposing side of Iran’s own thoughts was also covered in its opinions.

The primary goal of the covert negotiations was an effort to restart and revitalize protracted negotiations about a return to the 2015 agreement between Iran and major powers, which the European Union mediated.

The formation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, a 2015 nuclear agreement, was to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

The 2015 deal, however, ended months of deadlock following multiple rounds of unsuccessful negotiations in Vienna, Austria.

Iran Doha discussions

In exchange for the relaxation of economic sanctions, Tehran dramatically reduced its uranium enrichment under the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Former President Donald Trump withdrew America from the agreement on his own in 2018. This led to an increase in tensions throughout the greater Middle East and a slew of assaults and incidents.

As the negotiations to lift the sanctions progressed, Enrique Mora, the deputy head of foreign policy for the EU, served as the mediator.

Furthermore, the EU’s deputy top diplomat for foreign policy remarked that, “We will keep working with even greater urgency to bring back on track a key deal for non-proliferation and regional stability.”

Moreover, the foreign ministry spokesman also discussed his views on the Doha negotiations. He said that Bagheri and Mora will talk about moving forward with this. The following phase of the negotiations will also be covered by this.
