Turkmenistan’s Vision for Global Peace and Trust in 2025

Islamabad (TDI): The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan hosted a briefing session to outline Turkmenistan’s priorities and planned activities for the International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025.

Held at the Embassy premises in Islamabad, the session was presided over by Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan. The gathering provided an in-depth perspective on Turkmenistan’s commitment to promoting global dialogue and fostering international cooperation during this critical year dedicated to peace and trust.

Ambassador Movlamov opened the session by emphasizing the current geopolitical challenges, marked by intensifying global contradictions, a lack of trust among nations, and growing threats to multilateralism. He underlined Turkmenistan’s proactive stance in addressing these crises, grounded in the principles of neutrality, dialogue, and constructive international cooperation.

Highlighting Turkmenistan’s recent diplomatic achievements, Ambassador Movlamov noted the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution “International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025,” co-sponsored by 86 nations. He described this resolution as a tangible reflection of Turkmenistan’s philosophy of international relations: “Dialogue is a guarantee of peace.”

“The essence of this initiative is to inspire nations to move beyond confrontation and mistrust,” Ambassador Movlamov stated. “It is a call for collaborative efforts to address pressing global challenges, from sustainable development and energy security to regional stability and environmental preservation.”

The ambassador elaborated on Turkmenistan’s proposal to develop a Global Security Strategy, a comprehensive framework addressing interconnected security dimensions such as military, economic, energy, environmental, and informational security. He highlighted the importance of preventive diplomacy, neutrality, and fostering a culture of trust-based dialogue, all of which align with Turkmenistan’s longstanding commitments at the United Nations.

Ambassador Movlamov also underscored the regional focus of Turkmenistan’s agenda, particularly in Central Asia. Stressing the importance of addressing political, social, humanitarian, and environmental issues in the region, he reiterated Turkmenistan’s commitment to UN-backed initiatives, including the “Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation in Central Asia” and the “Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia.”

The briefing shed light on the cultural and educational dimensions of the International Year of Peace and Trust. Planned activities include international forums, regional dialogues, educational seminars, and youth competitions. The ambassador emphasized the role of neutrality as a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy and proposed recognizing neutral states as priority partners in UN peacekeeping efforts.

The ambassador invited the international community, urging collective action to realize the vision of a peaceful and equitable global order. “The International Year of Peace and Trust is an opportunity for nations to reaffirm their commitment to the UN Charter and to chart a course towards greater harmony and cooperation,” he said.

The event concluded with an interactive discussion, where attendees explored the practical implications of Turkmenistan’s initiatives and their potential to reshape the global diplomatic landscape.
