London (TDI): Türkiye is open to playing a role in clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz if a peace agreement is reached between Iran and the United States, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said.
Speaking to reporters in London on Friday, Fidan indicated that Ankara would view such an effort as a humanitarian responsibility, provided it is carried out under the right conditions.
He explained that any demining operation would likely be handled by a multinational technical team formed after a potential Iran-US deal. Under that framework, Türkiye would not object to taking part in the mission.

However, Fidan also made it clear that Ankara’s participation would depend on the nature of the coalition. If the group involved in mine-clearing were to become entangled in renewed conflict, Türkiye would reconsider its involvement.
He added that ongoing diplomatic efforts could soon yield progress, expressing optimism that disputes over Iran’s nuclear program might be resolved in the next round of talks, expected to take place in Pakistan.
