Ankara, 27 November 2011 (TDI): The Culture and Tourism Minister of Turkey stated that the country is revising tourism targets. Furthermore, he stated that Turkey is aiming for $24 Billion in income generation through the tourism sector.

Culture & Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy addressed the 11th International Resort Tourism Congress in the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya yesterday.

TurkStat highlights the good performance of the Tourism sector

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced that tourism income surged by 181.8% annually during the third quarter of 2021. Moreover, $11.4 billion earnings recorded for July-September depicted a $4 billion increase since the same period last year.

The positive trajectory was despite the onslaught of coronavirus pandemic which witnessed travel restrictions in terms of entry-exit and movement. Following were the visitors as per nationality: Russia (20% recorded at 3.5 million), Germany (13%), Ukraine (18%), Bulgarian (5%) followed by Iran (4%).

On the other hand, the $14 billion figure recorded in 2019 in contrast to Turkey’s tourism revenues in 2020 totaled $12.6 billion. The pandemic caused the 65.1% decline. The Culture and Tourism Minister announced that Turkey now seeks to welcome around 28 million tourists.

In addition, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy highlighted that the income from tourism was $16.8 billion during the initial January-September of 2021. He stated this during his participation 2-day summit at a ski resort located in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa.

At Turkey’s major economic event, Uludag Economy Summit, the Minister remarked that the tourism promotion efforts go a long way to enhance the pandemic recovery process amidst the currency crisis.

Turkey set to be among countries leading in IT

The Turkish transportation and infrastructure minister, Adil Karaismailoglu, stated that Turkey is preparing for implementing 6G technology. He was addressing the virtual information technologies (IT) event titled Bilisim Zirvesi.

Minister emphasized that technological innovations will be aimed to produce such technologies enabling entry into game as first-mover. Karaismailoglu mentioned that, unlike 5G, 6G will consequently lead to increased spectrum, lower costs, and higher data range.

The Turkish Communication & Information sector is formed by 58,000 people working in 5700 companies and, 84 IT & technology parks. As per Turkey’s Digital Transformation office, Turkey is all set to soon launch a satellite.
