Turnberry (TDI): Israeli strikes killed at least 34 Palestinians before US President Donald Trump met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday in Turnberry, Scotland, where they confirmed plans to discuss Gaza.
The talks came a day after Israel announced a partial easing of its military activity in certain areas of Gaza to allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians. The Israeli military stated it would pause operations in designated zones from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. However, Monday’s deadly airstrikes reportedly occurred outside that window.
Neither the Israeli government nor the IDF issued immediate comments about the latest strikes.
Amid growing international alarm, Trump openly challenged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent assertion that “there is no starvation in Gaza.” Trump said during a joint appearance with Starmer, “What we’re seeing in Gaza doesn’t match that statement. The situation on the ground is far more severe.”

Aid groups working in Gaza echoed Trump’s concerns, saying that while Israel’s decision to open limited corridors for aid was a step in the right direction, it fell far short of what was needed. Disturbing images of severely malnourished children have fueled global outrage and renewed calls for a ceasefire.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 14 Palestinians, including two children, died in the past 24 hours due to malnutrition-related complications. That brings the total number of child deaths linked to hunger since the war began in October 2023 to 88, the ministry reported. It also noted that 59 adults have died of similar causes just in July.
Starmer’s spokesperson Dave Pares said the UK is backing Trump’s renewed push for a ceasefire deal. The proposed plan, the details of which have not been made public, is reportedly being coordinated with several key allies, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who discussed the initiative with Starmer late last week.

Starmer is expected to consult with the United States, Arab states, and other stakeholders before presenting the proposal at an emergency meeting of his Cabinet later this week.
Pares emphasized that the goal of the initiative is “not just to stop the fighting temporarily, but to lay the groundwork for a lasting peace.”
