X.R. Magno met with the Ambassador of the European Union, Andrew Jacobs.
The agenda of the meeting between the two was to discuss the upcoming COP26. COP26 is the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. In addition to that, relevant multilateral issues were also discussed.
Ambassador Andrew reiterated the EU’s support for Timor-Leste on the importance of adaptation to Climate change. Climate change is a long-term shift in temperatures and weather patterns. Although these shifts appear to be natural, they are mainly triggered by human activities.
Timor-Leste is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
It is also increasingly susceptible to climate change. Earlier this month the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) launched a major new project for the country.
The Ambassador assured the EU’s continued support for the country’s initiatives. The meeting was held at Minister Magno’s office.
