Tehran, 27 July 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, held a telephonic conversation with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.

In his conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister appreciated Oman’s positive views on developing bilateral and regional cooperation.

Amir Abdollahian said that energy and food security has great importance to the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said by taking into account current energy issues in the world, his country has taken various initiatives so far.

Iran’s Foreign Minister also referred to Iran’s initiatives aimed at keeping the diplomacy window open about nuclear talks.

He stressed that the final round of talks before the agreement needs United States’ rationalism and flexibility. He further said that Iran is firmly determined to reach a good, strong, and sustainable agreement for all sides.

In response, Omani Foreign Minister, Albusaidi explained Oman’s view on the nuclear talks for reaching an agreement. He said, “We believe that all parties want to reach a final agreement and a golden opportunity has been provided to reach an agreement”.

Albusaidi further said that the final agreement in the Vienna negotiations and Iran’s legitimate demands are always supported by Oman.

Iran-Oman Relations

The two countries currently share diplomatic and economic ties dating back to the Pahlavi period. Oman and Iran are both members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Group of 77.

Iran has an Embassy in Muscat while Oman has an Embassy in Tehran. Oman played a key role in the nuclear talks between Iran and US and other Western powers, by hosting several meetings.

Recently, the communication and high-level bilateral exchanges between the countries have increased significantly. This increase has led to strengthening bilateral relations between the countries.

In February 2022, Oman’s Foreign Minister paid a visit to Tehran and met several important dignitaries including the President of Iran.

In May 2022, Iranian President Raisi visited Oman and met with the Sultan of Oman including other top-level diplomats.

During his visit, both countries signed 12 cooperation documents in the fields of politics, transport, diplomatic, economic, and tourism cooperation.
