Islamabad, 14 December 2022 (TDI): Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday arrived in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan.

Upon his arrival at the airport in the country’s federal capital, he was received by Minister for Commerce Naveed Qamar.

In the earlier announcement from the foreign office spokesperson, the President of Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. This will be a two-day official visit to Pakistan on 14-15 December 2022.

Pakistan and Tajikistan are brotherly countries linked through longstanding historical, cultural, and religious bonds. These ties are marked by mutual respect and exceptional cordiality. The two countries have a commonality of views on various regional and international issues.

On his arrival at the Prime Minister’s house, President of Tajikistan  Emomali Rahmon inspects the Guard of Honor at Prime Minister’s House. He had discussions with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif during the meeting.

During the visit, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas. It is expected that several bilateral agreements and MoUs will be signed during the visit.

Tajikistan is the closest neighbor of Pakistan in Central Asia, separated only by the narrow Wakhan Corridor. This proximity makes Tajikistan an essential partner of Pakistan in Central Asia.

The Tajik President’s visit to Pakistan is expected to impart a renewed impetus to deepening cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields and further strengthen the growing geo-economic partnership.

PAKISTAN-TAJIKISTAN RELATIONS 

Pakistan and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations in 1992. But the cooperation between both dates back to 1991. On March 31, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan held a meeting with the Pakistani Foreign Minister. Qureshi was in Dunshabe to participate Ninth Conference of Foreign Ministers “Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process.

Pakistan and Tajikistan have an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation. This Commission is one of their main mechanisms for bilateral cooperation.

In the first six months of 2021, there was a recovery in the trade between them, having reached 18.9 million.
