Dushanbe, 4 August 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met with the Chairman of the Tajikistan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Keiji Furuya.

During the meeting, both the parties highlighted the positive achievements of thirty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both sides also highly appreciated the role of inter-parliamentary ties and the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in further developing the bilateral relations. They also expressed content on the level of cooperation between the two countries.

Cooperation between the countries is currently ongoing in the socio-economic sphere, the field of personal training, scientific and cultural ties, the improvement of transport and logistics infrastructure, the implementation of previously signed cooperation documents, and the realization of joint projects.

Both parties at the meeting also felt the need to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation for both countries. The two sides also highlighted the significance of cooperation and the ‘Central Asia + Japan’ Dialogue within the framework of bilateral relations.

The two sides also termed the ‘Central Asia + Japan’ Dialogue as a reliable and real platform, which establishes practical interaction and cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.

Tajikistan-Japan Relations

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Japan were established in February 1992. Japan opened its Embassy in Dushanbe in 2002 while Tajikistan opened an Embassy in Tokyo in 2007.

During this period of diplomatic relations, both sides have created a good basis for further practical cooperation. High-level bilateral visits by the leaders of both countries have been a milestone in diplomatic relations.

In October 2015, Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, visited the Republic of Tajikistan. This visit gave a boost to the development of friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Then in 2018, Tajik President, Emomali Rahmon, paid an official visit to Japan. The results of this visit gave a new impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.
