Islamabad, 22 February 2022 (TDI): Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy called on Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan.

The meeting took place at the Naval Headquarters, Islamabad. Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy was received by the Naval Chief upon arrival at the Naval Headquarters.

He was also presented with a Guard of Honour. Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne was introduced to Principal Staff Officers at Naval Headquarters after a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shuhada monument.

During the meeting with Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, the Sri Lankan Navy Commander discussed matters pertaining to mutual interest. These include bilateral cooperations along with regional maritime security milieu.

Likewise, the Pakistan Naval Chief emphasized the initiatives undertaken by Pakistan Navy to ensure maritime security and peace in the region via Regional Maritime Security Patrols.

Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne appreciated and lauded the efforts as well as the commitments of the Pakistan Navy so as to support collaborative regional maritime security.

Furthermore, during the meeting, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy was also apprised about the operational capabilities of the Pakistan Navy. It is anticipated that this visit will further boost bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Whilst here in Pakistan, the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy will also meet with the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan. Sri Lanka is a strategic partner of Pakistan.

Both countries enjoy longstanding cordial ties and collaborate in multifarious dimensions including defense, economy, education, trade, as well as health.
