Colombo, 22 December 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry met with the heads of Sri Lanka Missions overseas and tourism sector stakeholders for a focused promotional campaign.

The meeting which was purposely set to promote tourism and look at ways to ensure that the tourism sector of this country is well positioned was well carried out.

The tourism sector of Sri Lanka makes up one of the biggest sectors of the economy which yields high investment. Many people visit these sites for leisure and educational purposes as they pay huge sums of revenue returns to the country.

He encouraged the mission to step up with their work as they seek to get more people coming in to invest in the sector. It is one of the key catalysts in bringing crucial foreign currency.

The daily foreign exchanges and revenue generated by the country are the work of the tourism sector. He further charged them to preach the good news about the country’s numerous opportunities to the people of over sea.

It is pertinent to note that the tourism sector has been the third largest foreign exchange earner in the country. As of 2018, the country generated $5.61 billion from this sector.

There are various sites in the country where tourists can come and have relaxation as part of their visit. In outlining the challenges, the Foreign Minister made it clear that due to the global pandemic, COVID-19 brought challenges to the sector.

But with the relaxation of the restrictions, it has started to see a new uplift again. Also, he encouraged other private investors and stakeholders to venture into Sri Lanka’s tourism sector the promote development in all areas of the country.

Giving his appreciation speech for the overwhelming support the country has received from various individuals so far and as they seek to forge ahead in the coming years. Additionally that the tourism sector of the country must grow.
