Colombo, 15 December 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry met with the Ambassador of Oman to Sri Lanka, Ahmed Ali Saeed Al Rashdi, and discussed ways for bilateral relations.

The visit of the Ambassador to the Foreign Ministry was to ensure that the two sides discuss the mutual interests of both countries. Putting their interest first as a country is a priority for them.

The long-standing historical relations of Sri Lanka have been underpinned by a vibrant tradition of people-to-people contacts and mutual respect.

Also, they discussed the trade relations between them, stating their areas of trade and how to improve these areas. They have continued to foster trade relations even stronger since the investment plan by Sri Lanka to Oman.

Adding to that, the two sides discussed their ability to promote peaceful coexistence by them as they seek to promote various ways in other to counter various terrorist activities and protect the unity existing between them.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

This was to ensure that the private sector and other partnerships between both countries are more related It has contributed to more revenue generation for the development of the country.

Estimations show as of 2020 Oman contributed $160 million of revenue to the economic development of the country.

Oman and Sri Lanka have since implemented mutual visa exemptions for diplomats. This has boosted diplomatic relations.
