Riyadh, 20 January 2022 (TDI): The South Korea President Moon Jae-in began an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. This after a four-day visit to the UAE.
Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz attended at the forefront of the welcoming committee of the South Korean President at King Khalid International Airport. He welcomed the Korean President and the first lady after they got off the plane. They also exchanged conversations, then played the national anthems of the two countries.
In this way, the Middle East tour for the South Korean president includes the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Therefore, President Moon’s visit to Saudi Arabia comes after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman invited the latter to visit. This is the first time in seven years that a South Korean president has visited Saudi Arabia.
According to South Korean broadcasting agencies, the Korean president will discuss with the Saudi Crown Prince ways to expand bilateral cooperation. Mainly to include health care, science and technology, hydrogen, public health and artificial intelligence.
South Korea President Addional Remarks
For this reason, the two nations signed preliminary deals to jointly develop green hydrogen. This important event took place after holding the talks at Al-Yamamah palace.
“This is produced from renewable energy sources. Especially solar and wind, and jointly build a hydrogen ecosystem,” Moon’s office said in a statement.
In addition to that, Korean President said, “Saudi Arabia, has the potential to produce clean hydrogen such as green and blue hydrogen”. While “South Korea has the strengthen in hydrogen utilization based on hydrogen-powered cars and fuel cell technology”, Moon added.
In this regard, Moon pointed out that both nations must closely cooperate to lead the global hydrogen economy. He also mentioned during a keynote speech at the Innovative Growth Forum, that Korea have plans to present the direction of future cooperation between with Saudi Arabia.
