Seoul, 30 November 2021 (TDI): During the last week, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Jong Kun Choi, held various diplomatic engagements to discuss a wide range of issues, specifically, the JCPOA. Earlier, the South Korean President also hosted Korea-Costa Rica Summit.

On 27th November, Jong Kun Choi met with Enrique Mora Benavente. Enrique is the Chief of Staff of Josep Borrell, who is the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union. The two met on the sidelines of the 7th round of talks to resuscitate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in Vienna.

The South Korean Vice Foreign Minister assured Enrique Mora of his country’s support for his efforts to make diplomacy work. Moreover, he reaffirmed his country’s stance of supporting the revitalization of JCPOA as well as preserving the historic relationship with Iran.

On 25th November, the Vice Foreign Minister met with Manlio Di Stefano, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of Italy. The two discussed the strategic partnership between Italy and South Korea as well as the means to further enhance it. Furthermore, the two countries aim to jointly collaborate in the course of the post-pandemic period.

Aside from the above engagements, Vice Foreign Minister, Jong Kun Choi also met with thirteen Ambassadors from the Arab region to South Korea. The Ambassadors belonged to Iraq, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Tunisia, and the UAE.

During the meeting, issues pertaining to joint collaboration, stability in Iraq, and the importance of JCPOA were discussed. South Korea is a staunch advocate of the revival of JCPOA for the sake of peace and stability. In addition to that, the FIFA World cup of 2022 was also discussed. The FIFA World cup of 2022 will be held in Qatar, next year.
