Budapest, 5 November 2021 (TDI): The President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in is on a state visit to Hungary. He is there to attend the 2nd V4-Korea Summit. Moon Jae-in is visiting on an extended trip to Europe.

He attended the G20 Summit in Italy and then the COP26 Summit in Scotland before coming for the V4-Korea Summit. The Summit includes Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and South Korea.

Meeting with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic

The South Korean President met with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babis. The meeting was on the sidelines of the 2nd V4-Korea Summit. The two leaders engaged in extensive discussion on foreign policy issues of mutual interest.

Bilateral Cooperation

Over the years, South Korea and the Czech Republic have progressively advanced bilateral cooperation in diverse areas. The cooperation encompasses political affairs, the economy, and the cultural arena.

The trade between the two in the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic reached a record high of $3.6 billion. The South Korean President expressed optimism about further strengthening of ties between South Korea and the Czech Republic.

The cooperation between the two stems from the implementation of the 2019–2030 Innovation Strategy. South Korea and the Czech Republic collaborate in industries like artificial intelligence.

Investment in the Czech Republic

The Czech Prime Minister on his part highlighted that his country is the best choice to invest in Europe. It possesses ample human resources, with low tax rates.

Technological Prowess of Korea

Andrej Babis commended the technological prowess of Korea in the construction of nuclear power plants. He expressed his hope that discussions relevant to nuclear power plants would continue in the future as well.

He stressed the need to enhance cooperation in the field of healthcare. The two leaders agreed to collaborate in medical science including cancer treatments and COVID-19 vaccines.

Moon Jae-in concluded the meeting by saying that he looks forward to the strategic partnership. The two will cooperate in nuclear power plants and the defense industry.
