South African Foreign Minister visits Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic

El-Aaiún, 16 November 2021 (TDI): South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Dr. Naledi Pandor paid a visit to Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) on Sunday.

SADR Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek received the South African counterpart. During her visit, South African Foreign Minister held a meeting with SADR Foreign Minister Salek.

Both shared views to boost bilateral relations on issues of common interest. Besides, South Africa reaffirms support for the self-determination of Western Sahara and the inalienable rights of the people. During the visit, the South African Minister also met with Mr. Brahim Ghali, President of Saharawi Arab.

Minister Salek invited the South African Minister to visit historical sites and Saharawi refugee camps in SADR, which Dr. Pandor accepted. The South African Foreign Minister accompanied by the delegation, visited Tindouf Refugee Camp.

Likewise, the delegation met with the refugees and shared thoughts. South Africa holds a principal position on the self-determination of the Western Sahara people, in United Nations, African Union, and other international organizations. Its position is aligned according to the UN charter.

South Africa officially recognized Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) on 15 September 2004. Also, South Africa rejects all form of colonialism on SADR and support the self-determination of the people.

Additionally, South Africa provides political support and humanitarian assistance to SADR. Both countries enjoy cordial bilateral relations.
