Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is actively working to reduce tensions in the Middle East and continues its diplomatic efforts to help bring about a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Speaking at a high-level meeting, the premier noted that Pakistan is feeling the economic impact of the war, particularly due to disruptions in regional stability. He stressed that the government is making every possible effort to promote peace and prevent further escalation.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has significantly destabilized the region. In response to early US and Israeli strikes, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route, and launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli territory and US military installations.

Pakistan has taken on a mediatory role, engaging in diplomatic outreach between Washington and Tehran. As part of these efforts, Islamabad hosted senior officials from key regional countries and facilitated communication between both sides. Pakistan also joined China in urging all parties to halt hostilities and move toward immediate peace talks.

The prime minister revealed that two Pakistani vessels had recently been stranded in the Strait of Hormuz but were able to pass safely due to coordinated efforts led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, along with military leadership including Chief of Defense Forces, Field Marshal Gen. Asim Munir.

He praised ongoing diplomatic initiatives, saying Pakistan has consistently worked to “cool down the flames” of conflict in the region. At the same time, he highlighted internal measures being taken to manage the economic fallout. These include a significant reduction in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and steps by lawmakers to conserve fuel.

PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that protecting citizens, ensuring agricultural stability, and maintaining the flow of goods remain top priorities. He also underscored the importance of controlling inflation amid rising economic pressure.
