Dakar, 30 October 2021 (TDI): Senegal is going to host the upcoming summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
The Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is a triennial high-level forum between China and African countries. The forthcoming summit will be held in Dakar, Senegal and provides an organizing mechanism for Chinese foreign policy toward Africa

Senegal is going to host the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Dakar in November 2021. FOCAC is a triennial organization that has been working to expand cooperation between the African states and China with the exception of Eswatini. The FOCAC forum has helped to strengthen the relationship of China with the African states. It also helped to build trust between them. China also recently hosted the 10th meeting of the China-Africa think tanks. It also hosted the 6th China-Africa Youth Festival in Beijing. The two initiatives were also part of the FOCAC.
China-Africa Cooperation
FOCAC commenced in 2006 with its first meeting in Beijing. In the last decades, China signed 1,141 loan commitments worth $153 billion with the African states. Chinese loans to African states have helped them to deal with their economic challenges. China has been working in different African states to build infrastructure under its project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The African continent has immense importance for the Chinese project BRI.
Covid19 Cooperation
In the Covid19 prevailing world, African states also suffered a lot. China did not leave alone its partners in the pandemic. It sent hundreds of thousands of doses of vaccines to African nations. It continued to provide financial assistance as well as vaccine and medical supplies to African states to deal with the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Objectives of forthcoming Summit
The upcoming conference will focus on the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic and the joint efforts of China-Africa to cooperate on Covid19. The summit will also emphasize deepening cooperation on BRI. It will also stress the key fields to cooperate such as healthcare, infrastructure, investment, trade, industrialization, digital economy, climate change, peace, and stability. Agricultural security, digital economy, and technology will be their priorities for the summit. Seeing the prevalent pandemic, vaccine diplomacy will also be at the top of the interests in cooperation.
FOCAC is the triennial forum working to enhance the cooperation between China and the African states. It exchanges It is aiming to build a community on shared values and common interests. It is expected from China to announce an expanded policy for the distribution of vaccines to African countries. China will also announce new green initiatives for the BRI project.
